Mohini Dasari, MD MS
Senior Consultant
Mohini Dasari, MD MS is a Senior Consultant with Iris Inclusion. She is a general surgeon with a passion and background in advocacy, writing and research. She went to medical school at the University of Pittsburgh and completed her general surgery residency at the University of Washington in 2022. She began an abdominal transplant fellowship in August 2022 but left in March 2023 due to the toxicity of the work environment that she and others experienced.
Mohini has written extensively on mental health, the challenges of the medical training environment and DEI in medicine/surgery. She draws on her own experiences in healthcare and training to inform her approach to DEI advocacy. She believes open discussion and honesty are crucial to paving the path forward. Diversity in the medical workforce is not just about recruitment– retention is key. She is passionate about helping healthcare systems identify tangible ways to help all their employees feel safe, included and respected. Diversity in medicine is not just about creating a more inclusive environment; it is also crucial to providing excellent, patient-centered, culturally competent care.
While at the University of Washington (UW), Mohini founded the UW Women and Surgery Group, a forum for trainees and faculty across surgical specialties to connect and support one another. She created a new policy pertaining to work hours for pregnant residents. She was nominated to speak to the Department of Surgery on gender discrimination and equity amongst surgeons at their Annual Education Seminar in 2022. She also gave the Department of Nephrology Grand Rounds in 2023 with a coworker related to their research on identity safety in medical training. She was involved in multiple research projects related to gender equity in surgical training as well.
She currently works as a general surgeon at EvergreenHealth in Kirkland, WA. She is a second-generation Indian-American woman, mother to a toddler, a certified yoga teacher and an avid writer.
